Christ Church laxly Peter Killey - www.manxscenes.com

Christchurch – Laxey

Posted on October 25, 2016 by Peter Killey

The foundation stone to this lovely church was laid in 1854 and the building was completed in 1855 but was not consecrated until May 1856. The church was built on land provided by Mr Geo. W. Dumbbell, chairman of the mining company, which forms part of the garden belonging to to the Mines Captain’s House (now the Mines Tavern). The building which became known as “The Miners Church”, cost £950 to which the Great Laxey Mining Company donated £200.

St Mark’s Church

Posted on March 7, 2016April 18, 2016 by Peter Killey

Situated in the Parish of Kirk Malew this quaint little Church was built in 1772 and is attached to the parish Church of Kirk Malew. Originally this church was built to accommodate about 200 people and was intended to provide a more convenient Chapel of Ease together with a parish school for those from the outlying districts! Original Kirk Conchan Church

Posted on October 13, 2015 by Peter Killey

This is the original church where St Peter’s Church in Onchan now stands. In fact this little church was better known as Kirk Conchan and the origins of the old church which stood some 50 yards to the north of the present St. Peter’s church date back to the 12th Century. This picture is depicted in a stained glass window in the present St. Peter’s Church in Onchan.
