New Shannon Class Lifeboat Visits Ramsey Harbour
The RNLI prototype Shannon class all-weather lifeboat is currently undergoing sea trials in the Irish Sea and is seen here visiting Ramsey Harbour. It’s the first modern RNLI all-weather lifeboat to be powered by water-jets instead of propellers, making it faster and more manoeuverable when reaching casualties and is expected to be seen within a year or two in the Isle of Man. The Remains of Trawler Cevic
The remains of this trawler which sank in June 1927 when she was driven onto half tide rocks in South Ramsey Bay and broke up. The incident occured when the men aboard the Cevic were attempting to rescue the ship’s lifeboat, which had got into trouble. A flare was sent up and the Ramsey lifeboat was launched. All the crewmen were saved, but the Cevic sank! The image was captured on my Fuji X10 camera resized and cropped in Adobe Photoshop CS5. Click on the image for a larger view!
