Beckwith’s Mine

Beckwith’s Mine is located above Glen Rushen on the western slopes of South Barrule, The mine was first worked around 1839 and produced lead ore before being closed in 1877. The main shaft was 1,100 feet deep, the bottom of which was considerably below sea level. National War Memorial at St John’s

This National War Memorial is sited adjacent to Tynwald Hill in St John’s The Celtic cross memorial was unveiled on 8th November 1923 by the Lieutenant Governor Sir William Fry. It was dedicated by the Lord Bishop of Sodor and Man and it was designed by P.M.C. Kermode and carved by T.H. Royston. Set in a beautiful wooded valley by the River Dhoo. The churchyard is full of Georgian headstones and is a wonderful place for photographers and anyone with an interest in Manx history and architecture to visit.
