Posted on June 29, 2011July 4, 2011 by Peter Killey

In similarity to my last image I took this image tonight (29 June 11) whilst onboard the Ben My Chree which was turning in Douglas Harbour. The image shows Douglas Lifeboat Station at low tide, the Lifeboat Station houses the Tyne Class boat named after the founder of the RNLI – Sir William Hillary – Reg No 47-032 – (click image for larger view). The image was taken on my Nikon D80 SLR with a Nikon 18-135 F3.5/5.6 G AFS DX lens at 112mm and cropped in Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Manx Kipper House – Peel Quayside

Posted on June 14, 2011July 4, 2011 by Peter Killey

I captured Moore’s Manx Kipper curers, curing their kippers on Monday 13th June, the air around the quayside in Peel smelt very strongly of burnt oak shavings, as you can see from the image the roof vents were open and they were well underway with their kipper curing. Just in case the many signs surrounding the building do not stand out, Moore’s cure and sell Manx Kippers!! I had to closely crop this image as there was a lot of overhead cables and the Peel Power Station chimney in the background. The image was taken on my Nikon D80 SLR with a Nikon 18-135 F3.5/5.6 G AFS DX lens at 20mm and cropped in Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Scarlett Point – Castletown

Posted on June 10, 2011June 10, 2011 by Peter Killey

Scarlett Point Tower is situated on the southwest coast of the Isle of Man, in Castletown. The high visibility orange building was formerly used a coastguard look out tower until the early 1970’s and was then decommissioned. The Tower has been used by radio hams for the last few years however during World War 2, Scarlett Point was used as a radar station. You can also see to the back right of the image the ‘Herring Tower’ which is situated on Langness Peninsula. The image was taken on my Nikon D80 SLR with a Nikon 18-135 F3.5/5.6 G AFS DX lens at 40mm and cropped in Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Mark Higgins Subaru TT Challenge – TT 2011

Posted on June 6, 2011June 10, 2011 by Peter Killey

Mark Higgins’ lap around the TT course in a Subaru rally car today (Monday 6/6/11) turned out to be a very convincing way of how to break Tony Pond’s four-wheel record for the TT Mountain course. The Manxman completed a circuit at an average speed of 113.505 miles an hour, easily beating Pond’s 1990 effort, when he clocked 102. I captured this picture of the Scooby returning up Pit Lane in the TT Grandstand after smashing the record. * 9th June 2011 Footage of Marks second attempt of breaking the TT Course Lap record and in Marks own words this footage at the bottom of Bray Hill was “the biggest moment of his life” – Click Here for 1m 37s clip The image was taken on my Nikon D80 SLR with a Nikon 18-135 F3.5/5.6 G AFS DX lens at 48mm and cropped in Adobe Photoshop CS5.
