A lovely walk down to the beach at Glen Mooar yesterday and passing this lovely Ballagawne Cottage, you can just make out to the right of the image and behind the tree, the “Thie Veg”, which is Manx for “Little House” Feel free to make any comments either on this website by clicking the “Write comment” below or by logging onto my Facebook Page enjoy – Click on the image for a larger view.

St. Michael’s Church – Kirk Michael
This church was built in 1835 (the former church dated from the 12th century) The building is of plain cruciform design and is built in brown stone with a large square tower. There are five Bishops buried in the graveyard, Bishops Wilson, Hildesley, Mason, Crigan and Duesbury. I actually went into the graveyard to have a look at these graves and I kid you not I was chased out by two sheep, one of which had long horns. St. Michael’s Church – Kirk Michael
A lovely feature to the entrance of this Church is this hand carved Lychgate. The foundation stone (bottom centre right) was laid on Easter Monday in 1907 by the Lieutenant Governor Lord Raglan, and it was formally opened on 16th October. 1907 by the Governors wife Lady Raglan. Spooyt Vane Waterfall
This is one of the highest waterfalls on the Isle of Man and is situated in a very isolated but tranquil setting in Glen Mooar, the name means ‘white spout’. Close by are the remains of a keeill, Cabbyl Pherick, and a priests cell. Spooyt Vane and Cabbyl Pherick are both accessed by ‘The Monks Road‘ this ancient road is at least 1500 years old and once linked up all the Island’s 220 keills. Glen Wyllin Coastal Erosion – Looking North
Standing on the headland at Glen Wyllin (south of Kirk Michael) and looking towards the sandy North West coast line of the Island up to Jurby Head. You can make out in the foreground the further coastal erosion (beyond the boulders) that have recently occurred due to the severe storms that we have been experiencing. The Sandy Coastline from Kirk Michael to Jurby
Quite a topical subject at the moment with the recent severe gales and the coastal erosion that has occurred due to the storms. I captured this image today whilst travelling from Peel of the sandy West coastline of the Island from Kirk Michael up to Jurby Head, with the evidence of coastal erosion quite prominent. You can also see in the top left of the image the white spire of Jurby Church and on the extreme right you can make out Kirk Michael Church. Orrisdale Gatehouse on the old Northern Railway Line
Orrisdale Gatehouse on the former Manx Northern Railway Line. The next stop towards Kirk Michael (about 300m) is the former Bishopscourt Halt. Bishopscourt Halt was once a minor stop on the former Railway Line which was primarily used as a stop for the use of the Bishop, his staff and visitors. The image was captured on my Sony HX20V camera, resized and cropped in Adobe Photoshop CS6.
