I have always admired this lovely little property that stands at the foot of Greeba Mountain and which is also closely associated with the Buggane of St Trinian’s Church which is just down the road from this location (I will cover St Trinian’s Church on another post sometime).
The Highlander which has been a Public House since the late 1800’s has now closed it’s doors in April 2012 for the last time.

I was born in the Highlander In September 14, 1938. The Inn was owned at that time by my parents John and Harriet Grange.
I note you were born in the Highlander in1938. There is an obituary of Chris Killip in the Daily Telegraph for 19th October last. It states he was born on 11th July 1946 in the Highlander Inn near Peel a pub run by his father and mother Alan and Mollie Killip nee Quirk. When he was 15 the family moved to Douglas
The family tree of my wife goes back to 1570 and contains many references to Killips They attended a church near Peel and you can trace their history by the records of births marriages and deaths at that church. In 1838 a member of the family moved to Manchester from whom my wife is descended.

My Dad loved this pub and we always called in when on holiday.Am I write in thinking the landlord had a big collection of clocks ? This was in the 1950s so sometime ago.

Is this inn closed? Iwent on to the internet and found it has a great steak menu but its a shame if its no longer open for business. I was going to check to see if it has accommodation as its a special wedding anniversary coming up next year. We spent our honeymoon at Tholt y Will inn when it was owned by Lord Strang 50 years ago and that was then a great place but we went back some years later and couldn’t believe how it had gone downhill. Any suggestions would be very welcome.
My mom is Carole grange ( now Carole levine ) she was born in that pub .. she is no longer able to remember .. I’d love to know why history of my family and any one related to me from the Isle of Man .
