I captured Moore’s Manx Kipper curers, curing their kippers on Monday 13th June, the air around the quayside in Peel smelt very strongly of burnt oak shavings, as you can see from the image the roof vents were open and they were well underway with their kipper curing.
Just in case the many signs surrounding the building do not stand out, Moore’s cure and sell Manx Kippers!!
I had to closely crop this image as there was a lot of overhead cables and the Peel Power Station chimney in the background.
The image was taken on my Nikon D80 SLR with a Nikon 18-135 F3.5/5.6 G AFS DX lens at 20mm and cropped in Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Your picture of the kipper houses made me feel sick with nostalgia for a day more than sixty years ago when my father took me to our ancestral Island for a holiday. We stood in front of similar smoky wooden houses and a small machine gutting the newly caught herrings as the gulls ran around gobbling as much as they could.
Hmmmm I must order a stone of kippers and put on ten. Tis ages since I have eaten a manx kipper, I can get Scottish kippers easily but, manx I will have to order by post, I can cook kippers to purrrrfection, and enjoy every morsel.
